in other news _ i'm starting over

haha. i guess i've said that or

something similar numerous times before.

but then again, so what. it happens every
now and again. starting over, i mean.

so after two years as an art director/layouter
at a small trade magazine for "all things baby and
kids", i am now free to embark upon my journey
as an artist slash illustrator slash craftsman
slash ... (i might fill this in later).

i know i shouldn't share this lest it
wouldn't turn out the way i had planned it,
but i do. i need to share most everything
anyway just to put myself out there and
to maybe gauge the worth of my little
"darlings", so you would've
noticed anyway.

what's more, today marked my 44th
birthday, so here's to a (hopefully) wonderful
new section in the life of me.

i kinda moved to berlin now.

the main reason was initially my boyfriend,

who's an ex by now. but eventually i

decided to stay. just to try my luck

over here.

i miss the very hot budapest summer

with it's almost unbearably hot nights,

but i come to like berlin more and more.

there are moments when i really

feel at home.

i still need to find a job though, which

makes my situation a bit less than

perfect... i mean i have the time to

go anywhere but not the money.

anyways, just wish me luck for

a successful job search.

FASHION, PERSONAL _ extremities and some good news

hand on a sleeve. i love basting, but this one was made by my mom and ibolya.

the good news are that i again got through into

the finals of the "gombold újra" fashion design competition.

i think it's amazing that i (with a little help from

my mommy and her colleague ibolya) did it again.

practically everybody advised me against entering again this year.

first off because most of my family measures things in "payoffs".

and payoff to them means financial success. so if something doesn't

bring more money than what i invested then why would i do it.

no normal person would do it. at least that's what they think.

because last year it didn't get me any financial success

they thought that it would be a waste of time, energy and money.

they could not grasp that i did it for the work itself not money.

okay, i love my family and they love me too... they want to

protect me and they want to mold me into a proper citizen, which i'm not.

but they want to do that because they want to see me get along well

in this world. i do struggle in this society that demands that i be

a slave to it... but that's okay, i think. maybe i really should

work more and earn more money. my family is right. and i am

right, too, i think. my mommy always tries to stand by

my side, tho. :)

Another friend told me i should not enter because of the high probability

that i could not repeat last year's success... and i said, so what?

no problem if i can't repeat it...

i had to save money for the competition, there were even bills

i did not pay because i had to put aside the money for the fabrics...

i had to save off more that 500 bucks, which is actually a lot for

poor little me. and i did enter the competition. :) :)

and again i got through into the final round... yay! :D

i really think it's amazing.

this year the challenge was even more exciting because

it got broader in that we could choose from many

areas of inspiration. we could use practically anything from

the cultures and natures of 4 of Central Europe's countries.

we even got a pinterest board with loads of inspo:

here.

i chose andré kertész' "distortions" series. some 200 photos that

he made in 1933 of two beautiful women through distorted mirrors.

a really, really surreal, really grotesque but no less beautiful series.

i find them breathtaking, funny, witty, and utterly modern.

we had to design 5 outfits that i'll post later.

above you can see some of them in the making.

and here, you can see all the finalists, including me. :)

there are 4 categories, and i'm in the "newcomer öltözék" one.

"öltözék" means clothing or outfit in hungarian. :)

i'm curious about what you think!

the jury decided already but they have to keep the decision secret

until june the 22nd, the day of the finals. it was supposed

to be held last saturday, the 8th, but they decided to 

postpone it because of the flood.

PERSONAL _ back on track???

well, who knows... :)

but can you imagine?

i'll enroll in drawing school.

for february at least.

well, it's just four times, cause it's rather pricey.

but i'm very excited...

why i do that after having a master's degree

as a fine artist is actually a valid question.

but i do that because here at home i simply cannot

get myself to start drawing. despite the urge to do so.

so that's why. so i'm gonna pay the price...

hogy elmehessek egy helyre, ahol

nincs más választásom, mint hogy rajzoljak...

meglátjuk, mi sül ki belőle...

i just thought i'd share the original drawings i made for the

"gombold ujra" competition.

it's all over now... the event, a rather big show
was held on saturday evening.

and i actually won a prize! i'm quite pleased.
i find that this prize is a big acknowledgement
because what i won is i can sell my stuff
(well, yeah, my as yet nonexistent stuff)
for three months at an online boutique called

ourstyle.hu

and it's a really good boutique carrying stuff from
many of those hungarian designers that i really admire.

this prize essentially means to me
that i managed to hit a quality standard that is good enough
for that boutique... one other thing that it means is
that i gotta work again, and make further stuff to sell... :)

which, i'm afraid, is just what i need.. another
pressure from outside that makes me do some serious
(or playful, for that matter) creative work.

one of these days i'll post the catwalk pics as well, i't a promise!
I didn't make any, but found some on-line.

az gondoltam, hogy felteszem az eredeti terveket, amelyeket
a "gombold újra" versenyre rajzoltam.


most már vége van, a show szombat este zajlott,
és apróbb fennakadásoktól eltekintve, minden okés volt, és jó kis élmény volt.


és képzeljétek, nyertem egy különdíjat! egészen elégedett vagyok
a teljesítménnyel. :) tényleg úgy érzem, hogy nagy
elismerés ez, függetlenül attól, hogy képes leszek-e
"forintra váltani" ezt a lehetőséget.
azt nyertem, hogy majd 3 három hónapig az

árulhatom a termékeimet (igen-igen, tudom,
az egyelőre nemlétező termékeimet).
viszont ami a lényeg, hogy az ourstyle véleményem szerint
elég magas színvonalat képvisel, az általam leginkább tisztelt
tervezők cuccait árulja (anh tuan, sármán nóri, stb.),
úgyhogy komolyan nagy megtiszteltetésnek érzem ezt a díjat,
hiszen ez azt jeleni, hogy ezek szerint a cuccaim
megütötték azt a mércét, ami akár az ourstyle-nak is megfelelhet, és ez jó. :)
a másik dolog, amit jelent, hogy akkor most
majd megint foghatom magam, és csinálhatok ilyen-olyan termékeket.
már itt hemzsegnek a fejemben, komolyan mondom.


de valójában azt hiszem, hogy pont erre van szükségem.
egy újabb külső nyomásra, amely erőnek erejével rávesz arra,
hogy komoly (vagy inkább játékos-kísérletező) kreatív
munkát végezzek. (persze, remélem, elég lesz majd a művtöri államvizsga után.)

bemutatón készült fotókat is... én nem csináltam egyet sem, de

babe _ my work for avon

naaaaay, this is not me. it's hungarian singer adrienn zsédenyi.

so i did this charity piece for avon's campaign against breast cancer.

they asked 25 artists (mostly young ones, not necessarily established ones)

to transform 25 pink mannequins into some artworks.

that's what i came up with.

i'm quite pleased with the result, but of course it

could have been so much better hadn't i started

making it some three weeks after the due date.

but that's just me...

i simply couldn't touch it until the day that i got a call

that they would pick it up that night...

and those were very busy days at the office, too.

so i asked for a couple more days and made it.

i guess i can work and produce some good work without

the pressue of time, but for some reason i just don't do it...

i'd love to learn how to do that.

anyways, i hope you like it.

but of course it's okay if you don't.
