on love _ a farewell to eva zeisel

my all-time hero, hungarian-born designer eva zeisel
passed away two days ago, on december 30th 2011,
at the age of 105.
she's one of those people i've wanted to meet, hug
and tell how much i loved.
i can't do that in person any more
but i've done it numerous times in my imagination.
her life and thoughts on beauty and design
continue to be tremendous inspiration to me.
travel safe, eva!

article on nytimes.com
pics from latimesbrooklynmuseum and gettingatattoo.
both photos of eva by talisman brolin.
quote taken from the section love
in her book, eva zeisel on design (the overlook press, 2004).

(on a different note, in hope of getting a few more hungarian readers
in addition to the now approximately 20 daily visits, from now on, i'll also try and write my blog
in hungarian, my mother tongue, all the while keeping english as the main lagnuage.
we'll see whether it will work out.)

***

legnagyobb példaképem, a budapesti születésű new-yorki designer,

u.i.: nagyon boldog új évet kívánok mindenkinek!

norcsi

this is a bridal gown from a friend of mine, nora sarman's graduate collection.
i think she's amazingly talented. the pattern on the veil was also designed by her.
photos, mark viszlay.

hexapelerine

i always like nicely executed topstiching, and angular shapes, too.

romeo gigli

eventually, i will have to dig up some old magazines to find earlier works of gigli
from the nineties or so, because ha made really extraordinary clothes back then,
and i simply couldn't find many of those stuff on-line.

this coat looks like something mariano fortuny or maria monaci gallenga would do
back in the '20s and '30s... you gotta get to know those guys, too.
